Deluxe w/ BF and tweed preamps advice needed
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Hi. I'm starting my next amp and need any advice that may be available.
This amp is going to have a 4-6V6, cathode bias power section; basically a double 5E3 Deluxe. I want to do 2 discrete preamps, a 5E3 and an AB763 (no reverb or trem) with relay switching. The only problem I see is how to handle the phase inverter situation. I guess it all breaks down to 2 questions:

1. Can I (or should I) put the relay after the phase inverter and before the master volume? If this is a bad idea, why? and....

2. If I should switch before the phase inverter, which should I use, the 5E3 or the AB763? Why?

Or, is the whole idea of the AB763 side stupid? I have a gutted Bandmaster chassis to put this in and I have plenty of extra spaces for pots and tubes. I'm just looking for more versitality but maybe this isn't the best way. Any opinions before I get started would be appreciated.

Thanks!
Dave

I would put the relay before the phase inverter because it's simpler that way. And add some extra de-coupling and 1M bleeder resistors to be sure you are not switching signals that are riding on some DC voltage. That's the only way to avoid a POP when you switch.
And I would use the 763 phase inverter because that's what is used on the larger amps, no other reason.
