Deoxit brand... What do you use?
-
That's the best by all accounts. I've just got the Radio Shed stuff and it's okay for me I guess.
-
I just bought "Contact Cleaner" from MG Chemicals. I don't know if its the right stuff, but it works like a dream. I just picked up a GA15-RVT with unusable pots. Absolutely horrible. I was sure I'd have to replace them. A few squirts with this stuff and they sound like new.

Nail Polish remover. Cleans good and fast. Evaporates quick.
Non Scented. Is stronger......

There are many types of Deoxit. D5, DN5, Faderlube, D100, etc.. Which one??
Nail polish remover? How do you get it into the pot??
-
Radio shack tuner cleaner, works great and easy to get.

I have the RS cleaner... I am just curious about the other brands and now nail polish remover.
-
i've seen many people using deoxit brand but never got to known what "type" of deoxit, check out AES i think they describe that stuff in their catalogue, as for the nail polish thing... Personnaly i would'nt use it, acetone is strong stuff (unless that nail pollish remover doesn't have ?).

I use D5 for pots.

I think that's a bad idea. That stuff will dissolve some plastics.

Ditto, Caig DeoxIT after a few blasts of dry compressed air.
-
The nail polish remover though is a down graded acetone and is not strong enough to eat through plastics as fast as the industrial grade acetone is
There are 3 different grade levels for the ladys to choose from when doing there nails
I use a metal miniture oil can to shoot a gallon or more into each pot. LOL!
No really just a drop or two. It evaporates quickly and doesnt have that radio shack oil base
Then a blast of compressed air for GP
Is lube needed or would you prefer a real clean pot making excellent contact?
Plus it only costs 0.99 cents for 8 Fluid Ounces

Yuck. I would never inject acetone and lanolin in a pot...

Basic DeoxIT, not Gold, Shield, etc. Faderlube is roughly the same with added lube, different packages and higher prices. I don't use it on carbon pots.

I've been using Caig "CaiLube MCL Moving Contact Lubricant" for sliders and pots. From the label on the can:
"Precision lubricant for conductive plastics and carbon-based controls. Replenish and lubricate faders, switches, potentiometers and other sliding surfaces. CaiLube MCI is formulated to lubricate and enhance signal transmission on conductive plastic and carbon-based controls. On metal surfaces use ProGold and Deoxit, on plastics use CaiLube MCL."
The nozzle can be rotated to control the flow--the stuff comes out fast. It's taken me some practice not to drown the pot.

I ordered some dioxit faderlube and D5 and I'm going to get some nail polish remover. I figure if one product does not work... I'll try the next one. I was able to free up a seized pot with some WD40!!
-
Caig ProGold GP5 for sure.
For any contacts acting funky.
-
I use Gumout Carb Cleaner. Inexpensive and dries quickly.
-
Deoxit FaderLube F5. It's the "re-named" CaiLube MCL.
-
Pot cleaner? Hmm... Probably an old Sabbath LP cover.
Mr G's contact cleaner.
-
I've been using DeoxIT D5 for a long time. Haven't tried the others.
I use it mostly on guitars.
-
I like the Caig stuff, and I've also heard that carburetor cleaner works well. I know that I've used it to clean out a few filthy pedal steel guitar changers!
