Title: Snap Locations
Post by: craigtone on March 29, 2022, 09:02:23 am
How can I snap to the center of a pot or other feature that is not center origin?  I want to line up the input jacks, pots, switch, fuse, etc. in a perfect straight line centered on the chassis side.

Also, why can't some items be rotated?  The one in particular for me is the IEC connector.

Here's how you can align pots

In shapes, draw a straight line that snaps to your grid and is straight
Paste a pot and use the small dot to snap the pot to the line
Or just eyeball that the pot solder holes are in the center of the line

Like in my screen shot below

I will test the other front panel parts also

IEC cannot be rotated in my test
You can ask Bancika at the official DIYLC site as to why

That link is here on Github

I just messed around with several other panel parts
The same technique applies
Use lines to visually align parts the way you want them

Use several lines if you have a few different planes of alignment on the panels

Here you can see several parts aligned to a line
Note that the grid spacing you set will male a difference

I have my grid set to .03125 inches in my screen shots

When you grab a part from the left menu tree, there is a green dot
I used that dot to align to the lines

If you grab a part and move it, you don't see the dot
I just eyeball the line when moving a part

Yeah, that is the problem that the green dot is not the center of the pot shaft.  I want the shafts, jacks, fuse, etc. holes are centered about a line.  I'll have to make an enhancement request to be able to change the snap point of the parts.

You don't need the green dot
Just move parts and align them along a line that you draw
