Title: Broken tubes ok?
Post by: joesatch on May 26, 2022, 01:15:11 pm
Bought a Marshall 100 watt head online. upon inspection i noticed the 4x6l6gc (Sovtek 5881)  were kinda loose and it appears the locator (center plastic) has broken off into the socket on 3 of them. Now the tubes' glass is still intact and they still have vacuum. I have removed the broken plastic centers from the sockets. Can i still use these tubes or must i toss them? Normally i'd toss them but with current prices..

I wouldn’t chuck them for that if they’re working. Just be very careful to make sure you put in the right orientation if you ever remove them.  Make a mark on the base and the chassis to align them.
