passed this on my hike this morning.
not a good way to start your day
I removed the picture, as it might be insensitive.
Suffice it to say that mountain lions win over bobcats
-
Wow! Bad day to be the little kitty for sure. Watch your back!
-
I am removing the picture as I have been told (in another area) It is insensitive.

the Coyotes (animal NOT human:) had a good year, it's the 1st time in 30+yrs that I started carrying just to walk my yard after dark.
-
Could have been coyotes as well.
What's odd is that the remains left on the trail and had no damage except for what was missing.
Would think that the predator would have taken it to a secret hiding place.
Many years ago Cougar killed a cyclist on a trail not too far away from a park where the kids play
The same animal then attacked a woman who might have come up on its kill.
Rangers destroyed the animal but it just speaks to what these guys can do.
Here's a pic I got yesterday as well

I’m in PA but pretty secluded area, the deer around my home are grunting at me. I raise my hands to look big but the big guy just nods his head up and down.., doesn’t run just grunts at me. Behind the big guy are 5 or 6 other deer all looking at me…?
These deer eat my flowers, tomatoes anything that doesn’t have a tight deer net is gone. They come over a 5’ fence in my front yard to eat my flower bulbs, nasty critters.
No bobcats but either foxes or coyotes, l have to keep my sheltie in the fenced-in front yard, but he chases the deer, they run like hell but now that big guy ain’t budging when l confront him, just grunts, is this guy going to attack..?

Best not to hunt out of season, but pepper spray?
I have a lot of deer, and they are in my yard on a daily basis, but none of them are confrontational.
Our foxes don't have a problem trotting 20 yards away from me when they want to.

Same day separate encounter, I was walking up the road and encountered doe and fawn
The doe was making a sound I had not heard before.
Sounded like grunting, maybe as you referred to.
I was only able to get pic after they scampered up the side.

BTW - I am jealous of all the rural living by all you amp builders. And green too...

The deer herd are runnin early this year, lots of road kills.
That one's either horny or protecting a fawn, check underside for conformation :icon_biggrin:

We have a hare like that. The Pyr wants a piece of it. I don't think she could handle it.

Live about 8 miles to closest town that is about 3000 population. I have been told by my neighbor just lately that he seen a black Panther about 1/2 mile from my house. Also his brother and law told me he had seen a Brown Panther in our area. I haven't spotted them yet, although I've been looking. We have a few deer around but they they have been thinned out by the hunters and also we've had the loggers clear cut a lot of timber. So a lot of the woods has disappeared. Lot of coyotes in our area that I mostly hear at night and very seldom see. I do have a Fox who visits our house from time to time and eats bugs under our security light in the summertime. i understand they only do that as a last resort when their normal food supply is low. I have fed him cat food and he ate it.
I use to ride my bike on about a 12 mile loop through the woods and seen wild cats and Bob Cats from time to time. One day bike riding I came up on two Bob cats in the middle of the road. A male and a Female. They werewere ln the process of hooking up and when they seen me one ran to one side of the road and the other to the opposite side. So I stopped and got off my bike and noticed one Bob cat had gone about 100 feet off the road and stopped. I know this is crazy, but I approached the cat within about 50 feet and began to talk to him. I did have a pistol. The cat would never face me but was standing sideways to me. When I would talk, he would let out a low growl in response. After a few minuets I decided I would let him alone and get back to business. So I got on my bike and moved out. I know that was a very foolish thing to do and would never do it again but it did happen:>)Platefire
Note: A google search on Louisiana Wildcats will tell you there are no Black Panthers in Louisiana. But My Wife, I and others have seen large black cats with a long tail (not bob tails) so----what kind for sure, I don't know?

few years back was in a Florida State Park, following the animals trails, the human trails had humans.
Popped out of a thicket, 20yrds from a panther-hybrid, I talked to it, it lifted it's head, looked over his shoulder, crouched, then cleared 10+ Ft and sat on the limb like it was no big deal! I told him NICE! He leapt down, looked over it's shoulder, then saunters off.
Was an amazing experience

Tuesday on a short hike in northern NH I jumped a black bear. I heard a rustling suddenly so froze to see what was about and it popped into view about 75' from me as it paused to look back.. I jumped in surprise and after a split second of eye contact we both agreed to head in opposite directions and did so. First time seeing a bear for me. Adrenaline city.

For woods-bikers:

A bear comes in on the right side of the frame.
There's other stuff in that too-long video but maybe not worth the time.
