The volume pot on my tele is acting up (it's34 years old and well used) when turning it up from 0 to about 3 there is nothing to very little then it it jumps to normal from that point on up to full volume. I'll try to spray it down today but fear the trace is gone . If so what is the best option on new replacement?? Thanks and regards Rafe

Sounds like it's bad to me. I would replace it if cleaner didn't resolve it.

So does the above represent a change, when the guitar is plugged into the exact same pedals and amp, set to the same settings?

Pretty much anything you put in will be fine . . . That said, every guitar maker and player has their own favorites. Some like Alpha pots, others like CTS Pro's. I like Bourns or Tokos. My wealthy buddy loves Dunlop "Super Pots" (and yes, they are good but expensive). Oh, Seymour Duncan YJM pots are nice too.

Yes , compressor and gibson falcon ....But i skipped the comp. and went straight in and it does the same. Pretty sure it's the pot

In most cases I use Alpha pots unless the customer specifies something else.

Quick question . Pot is definately defective. it's a 250 audio pot . I have a 500 audio ALPHA pot here that was for another project ....what difference (if any) will using it cause. thanks

As a volume pot you shouldn't see all that much difference.
You see a greater effect on the tone pots.
Let her rip tater chip! :icon_biggrin:

Compared to 250k, when a 500k vol pot is turned down to around 7, the tone will tend to be a bit more muffled. Due to higher resistance interacting with cable capacitance. May want to consider a bright cap on the volume control.

decided to go with a 250 could really live with that blank spot at the beginning of the sweep but i'll replace it just the same . If it isn't right it's wrong
