Title: F&T variants
Post by: joesatch on July 29, 2022, 12:12:29 pm
Bought several F&T 22uf 500v caps from a few vendors. There are differences in size on these.  Why?  Which is better?

The big ones are for big amps. The little ones are for little amps.

Ease of manufacturing, use what fits, all kidding aside but l like “use the big ones for big amps, small one for same amps”
Title: Two sizes listed in their catalog
Post by: chaswahl on July 29, 2022, 06:56:51 pm
FWIW, their full range catalog does list two different sizes for 22 uF 500 V Typ A caps: 16 x 39 mm and 18 x 30 mm, the only apparent difference being the "order code": https://www.ftcap.de/fileadmin/user_upload/download_inhalte/FTCap_ELCO_mit_Mersenlogo_Ansicht.pdf

They have a "general section" at the beginning that is interesting for its informational content.

Wasn’t F&T bought by Mersen a few years back, or is that bad info?

It doesn't matter.  The size is very-similar.

... Which is better?

They're the same.  Use them in good health!

this is the same thing as when you go to mouser and search for a 100nf 50v film cap (for example). you'll get results rangi-shapeng in size from smaller than a grain of rice to quite large. differently-shaped pegs for differently-shaped holes

My FT supplier orders directly from FT in Germany

I had him get me 500 of the 16/475v caps from FT in Germany

The top longer 22/500v cap in your photo is what I stock and comes directly from Germany
Not sure what that shorter fat one is?

All my FT caps are on this page

I wish they had a variant with sturdy lettering.

I wish they had a variant with sturdy lettering.

I was embarrassed by how badly the print disappeared off them in an amp I built a friend that I replaced the caps wearing gloves… I want any actual techs working on it to quickly read all values.
