Maybe a dumb question but my internet research hasn't given me a good answer.
Is it (with decent results) doable to implement a vibrochamp type trem in, let's say, a 6L6 AB763 type amp? Preamp tube cathode wiggle rather than the opto bug.
If so, then why wouldn't Fender have used that in their bigger amps? Can someone explain on a laymans level?

Yes you can implement vibro-champ trem on the cathode bias of any pre-amp stage (except a cathodyne PI, and it might be tricky to get working well on a LTP inverter, but you can definitely do something like it on a paraphase inverter -see 5E9-A schematic).
