I'm wondering if anyone has any experience with the particular kit from Tube Town? https://www.tube-town.net/cms/?DIY/Amps/TT_5Ae3_-_MKII&normal
I like the idea of the switchable mods that it offers. I realize it isn't a true "handwired" replica, since it's using a pcb, but that's not a big deal to me.

Did you see this part?
NOT INCLUDED:- Chassis ( see "Accessories" tab for matching chassis )
- Knobs
- Faceplate
Also shipping to me in the US looks like over $100.

Yep, after adding the chassis, faceplate, and knobs, it comes to $513 shipped to the US.

Same problem we have when we want to order from your side of the pond :cussing:

That's one of the least expensive kits I've seen, including shipping. Mojotone's is $600 shipped.
-
Not sure if Weber includes shipping but I get $500 for their kit less the cab and speaker. Edit: $538 shipped.

I've heard the Weber kits aren't very good quality.

You're way better off buying a 5E3 "kit" from Doug.

Are you? Still gotta buy tubes, transformers, chassis, cab, and speaker. Doug downsized a couple years ago. He's not competing with the "complete kit" guys.

Trying to find the cheapest kit is a fool's errand as far as I'm concerned. What's the point? If planning to keep the amp for years and enjoy playing it, get what suits you best and you will forget about the few extra dollars you spent. We all experience this over and over again in our lives and regret not buying quality. I don't buy full kits but I buy lots of parts. As far as I can see, Doug, Mojo, Ceria, Trinity, Weber (speakers, chassis and many components, but not everything) Hammond, Heyboer, and others offer quality stuff. There are many threads on here started by new builders wishing they had not taken a swim in Cheaplake

I agree completely! I'm not looking for the cheapest kit. That's why I started asking for recommendations.

Almost all of my amp stuff I buy there and I'm very pleased with the service and quality of there products. I'm in no way affiliated with them, just a satisfied customer.

In this case, I do think so. My understanding is that the OP is not looking for complete kit. I could be wrong.
In any event, Doug's interpretation of the designs (schematic, layout, BOM) are solid, and time tested. His turret boards are the best I have seen, period. So from that perspective, yeah I think my recommendation makes sense.
Of course there will be a lot of part sourcing; OP seemed to be aware of that.
For a "complete kit," you can't beat Stewmac. Their support is very good, and I have not seen mistakes on their drawings quite yet -- though my only experience with their kits is secondhand through acquaintances.

From where?

I live in the Netherlands.

I think he was asking where you were buying, not where you live. ("There" might be ambiguous.)

:laugh:Right.
I'm buying most of my amp stuff at Tube-Town
-
I think he asked as to know the place from where orders were done
