Title: Tung Sol reissue 12AX7 and cathode followers
Post by: 12AX7 on October 19, 2022, 10:34:10 pm
When i first started using these back when they first came out i destroyed a few till at some forums how they are not suitable for use in cathode follower sockets. Does anyone know if this is still the case or if sovtek (or whoever makes them) has resolved that issue? I don't understand how this being the case not a single seller i have seen mentions that they aren't suitable for CF applications. Every one i tried in a CF died or began making extreme noise that continued even if i tried them in another socket IIRC. Anyone know the lowdown on these? Still the same or have they changed them? I really love them in my amp and would like to be able to use it in the CF socket so that the 3rd stage which uses one of the triodes could benefit from the tone i love about them. I'm almost considering a 4th socket so i can have one tube for the 3rd stage and another for the CF ! (theres already a extra hole for one)

There's a mixture of components that help protect CF circuits with 12ax7.

I'm sure someone here knows what I'm talking about. There's a diode and a cap in there somewhere, I don't know exactly, I've not built one like that.  But I've seen the schematic.

I , too, think the new production tung sol 12ax7 is very good sounding.

Ya know, I just said F it and stuck one in there. Turns out i don't like it there ! So much for this thread ! Just sounded like too much of a good thing so i put the old tube back, a 80s chinese. Sounds better with that. So tung sols in V1 and PI and thats good enough. Sorry for the waste of time.
