Title: Flea Markets & Ham Fest in your country - Please post photo
Post by: kagliostro on November 09, 2022, 01:34:04 am
Due to the Covid and to healt problems Is a very long time I don't go to Electronics Fier, Radio Amateur Flea Markets (Ham Fest)

To go to those events was my preferred way to have a leisure vacation (May be the only one this last years)

Please can you take and post here some (many 😁) photo when you go to such events, also Garage Sales are wellcome, also if there Is nothing about our tube hobby

That Will be higly appreciated by me (that way it will be as I was there with you, unfortunately to drink a beer togheter there it will not be possible 😉)

Many Thanks for your further post (that I hope will be in great number)

Hi Franco,

I used to be a regular at Ham Fests (I'm US based), but over the years these flea markets have been getting smaller and smaller, and even smaller. I've been to a couple where there were only three vendors. Nothing compared to the glory days where there was a huge number of vendors and covered the *entire* fairgrounds. I've made so many good buys there! I guess everyone is selling online  :dontknow: or maybe the newer generation just doesn't like chatting in person about their projects  :dontknow: I know for myself the fun was in the hunt for good deals, or finding a boat anchor (US expression for something you really didn't need, but just had to buy), or meeting people and just talking about your latest project. I'm still on the look out for the historically bigger ones in my area, and I'll make a point of taking pictures for you and posting them.

Take care.

Paul

Ciao Paul

As you say there are lot of (good) reasons to go to HamFest, Flea Markets and others

A lot of times I was there to meet friends that lives far from me and sometimes happened to find a boat anchor and to go home with It was a big satisfaction 😁😁😁

I Hope to see early some photo

Thanks

Hey Franco,
My big regional show isn't until next spring but I did find a small meet last weekend.  Here's a few shots.  Hope it helps your withdrawal.  :icon_biggrin:      Yes that's "Tubes $1 each"...

Sorry, I have not been out to shop in a while. However you may enjoy this. Thanksgiving is a harvest feast celebrated with turkey (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Turkey_(bird)). We went out to eat. The family after us came in with turkeys on their heads!! You can see the little blonde girl thinks this is silly.

Happy Thanksgiving!!

Hi Kagliostro,

Winter is over, spring is here, and so are the Hamfests. Here are some pictures of the first one this year in my area.
This set is in the tailgate area.

One photo from the tube table. One US dollar for any tube. Bought myself 5 (see picture). I've been hoarding for over 30 years, so there's not much more I can hoard. But I did buy the speaker (pictured) for $10.00 USD. Good price. Tried to haggle, but he said it was for the club... Say no more, I'm good.

So this was my morning. Still have the afternoon  :icon_biggrin:

Hope everyone is enjoying spring.

That's a nice speaker for $10.  My big local hamfest is coming up in June.  Can't wait--I may have to get there the night before and sleep in the car.   :icon_biggrin:

night before and sleep in the car.   :icon_biggrin:

Been a few years since I've done that  :l2: Maybe 40+ years .... The last time I slept in a car, my Dad and I were taking turns driving Seattle to SF. Stopped for about 4 hours at a rest stop to catch a few zzzz's.

Once I arrived 0600 at a hamfest as the brochure stated. Got through the 4 tailgater and the 6 tables real fast. This was a huge one too. Just got there too early. Needed to wait for the rest of the tailgaters/vendors to get there. Full house though a couple hours later. Took me until noon to get through it all. Got front row parking though  :icon_biggrin:

Went to another hamfest yesterday. This one was a little further out, so made a day trip out of it with the Wife. It had rained non-stop the night before and well into the morning. Still drizzling by the time we got there. Put a real damper on things  :icon_biggrin: As you can see in the pictures attendance was low, but the die hards showed up.

Did a side glance on the Peavey (pictured), and the vendor instantaneously acted upon it: "You want it!?". "Nope" was my answer. He responded: "Ugh looks like I'm going back home with that one again". I guess so friend, there's no way I want an 800W Peavy PA...

Mildly interested in the Tascam mixer (pictured). It was "moist" from the drizzle, figured if the price was right... He wanted $150.00 USD. This maybe a good price, but I have a good mixer so no, I didn't get it.  All I wanted it for was to look good next to my Tascam 244 cassette recorder...
