About 7 am EST the power went out here
The temp is zero F here in western NC
I am running on a generator right now
Hopefully they get power restored soon'
-
It's bad here in MI also, I do have power but the -20 wind makes it hard to keep the temps inside above 60. the woodstove is roaring n I'm stokin like Casy Jones making a fast run.
make sure and buy your local linemen a 6-pack when the dust settles

Duke power says they are doing rolling outages to make sure the grid does not go down because of excessive power demands.
Not sure if my area is a tree down or they shut down the power temporarily here.
From the duke web site
Emergency power outages underway
Due to extremely cold temperatures driving unusually high energy demand, we have begun short, temporary power outages across our system.
These emergency outages, also known as rolling blackouts, are necessary to protect the energy grid against longer, more widespread outages.
The majority of these emergency outages will be restored remotely within 30-60 minutes; however, in some cases, a crew will need to be dispatched, extending restoration times.
Also, it is possible that other unrelated factors, such as downed tree limbs, are also causing outages at the same time.
We will update the map as our crews provide additional information.
We appreciate your patience and cooperation as we respond to this emergency situation.

Hope things improve for you guys soon. Here on the eastern fringe today is bright sun and mid-teens now. Last night at 8pm it was 57F, pouring rain and howling winds (66 mph gust recorded at the airport half a mile away) when I shut the generator off and said time for bed. All the snow is gone. Saw a tree on top of a parked car on the drive home last night.
Stay warm and stay safe

Power is back on here.
I had to look out the window through the woods to see a porch light on a near by building to see if it is on.
No way for me to tell here because I was disconnected from the main grid so I could run the generator
Most likely Duke power shut down this area to conserve power.

I split the power at the pole into House and Garage. The generator only feeds house. I leave the garage light "on" so when street power comes back I know.
We had one VERY old Spruce come down on the path to the neighbor and on a Witch Hazel twig we are trying to grow. It actually missed the twig, the neighbor is in Florida(!!) from next week, the down tree stays until it warms some.

when I had my 1200W solar, after blowing up one inverter, left a junk meter hooked to the mains before breaker, NOTE taped to it SOLAR OFF 1ST :think1:

My power and utilities are all under ground here.
No wooden poles anywhere near me
My neighbor was in a horrible car accident and was paralyzed waist down
He is in a care facilityBut he left a porch light on
I can see a faint yellow bulb glowing through the trees

Nothing but wood poles here. It's all ledge (rock) a foot down, and in The Pine Tree State we don't do steel or concrete if we can use a tree. This morning's update:
11 a.m. December 27 Update: Wind and rain storm restoration
...Crews continue to find more broken poles- additional equipment is arriving in the area to set poles where ledge is present. Crews continue to make steady progress, but restoration will not be complete until end of day Thursday.
Crews will be able to travel by boat to Cranberry and Isleford Islands today.
