Title: My Father(Sam), Son(Greg) and Me(Platefire/Bob) playing Sam's Favorites
Post by: Platefire on January 29, 2023, 11:21:45 pm
My Dad Sam played a harmonica but never played with other musicians, just by himself. Back in the 90's whenI got my first Tascam 4 track recorder, I decided I wanted to build a backup track to include Dad's favorite harp songs and get him to play on it while he was still able to do it. So i got to building the tracks and brought my Son Greg in on it. So this is three generations, me, my Son and Dad. It was quite a job trying to help him wear headphones, playing his harp into a mike and to play in time with the music which he had never done before. He passed away in 2011, so I'm very glad I have this recording to remember Dad playing the harp. So here it is if you want to give it a Listen. See if you can recognize the songs. The link will take you to Sound Cloud

Hey  Bob / Platefire,

That was a super cool thing to do!  So glad you got it recorded.  Very very nicely done. Enjoyed listening to it.

I was able to get my dad (who couldn't sing but loved to) and my mom to sing along with my wife and I on a rendition of "Will The Circle Be Unbroken". It's the
only recording I have of them singing and it's a real treasure to me.

My folks were from DeRidder, La. not far from you at all. They attended high school there.

Thanks for sharing this!  Beautiful thing to have done.

with respect, Jeff

Hi tubenit
Thanks! Yes your so right. Those kind of things just become more valuable as time passes. It's hard to pull off getting everything together to accomplish it, but well worth it once it' done. In 1995 I made a album of all our Family, me, the wife and 4 kids. It was entitled "Scott Family, 1995 and Counting" Here 28 years later we're all still alive a kicking , Praise the Lord!

Connie and i go to Deridder pretty often to go shopping, visit the thrift shops and buy groceries just to get out of town, something different. It's a nice clean town and all the old buildings on front street are well kept and most of them have businesses in them.

Here is a little something I'll throw in. My Grandpa LaMore use to do a lot or recording in 40's and 50's on his tube Recordio. I inherited all his old recordings and here is a tune of him just playing guitar and singing. I added bass, drums and keyboard. Bob

Oh boy did this one bring me down memory lane. Red River Valley and *all* the others. I remember when I *was* real young, singing all of these with my Dad accompanying Mitch Miller's LP's. We had at least five of his albums. What great memories! Still remember the lyrics after all these years  Really enjoyed your Dad's harmonica playing.
