Hello, I'm slowly assembling a Deluxe Reverb, I've not built one before.
My doghouse cover is fouling on a grommet on the top of the chassis and won't lie flush. Has this happened before to anyone?
Shall I just cut a bit off the grommet?
-
Got room to drill another hole? If so I think that's a better choice than cutting away part of the grommet. :dontknow:
-
Can you shine a light on the grommet so we can see where the wires are? I've personally not had a problem with the doghouse cover being interfered with by a HV wire grommet. It could be the grommet has a circumference the is too large.
Is that an aftermarket chassis? If so the wire hole might not be in the proper position.

Either move the grommet hole or move the four screw holes, whatever's easier.

Thank's for the advice. :icon_biggrin:
I'm still mulling over this. :think1:
I've uploaded some more pictures. Any comments are most welcome, this forum has really helped me so far.
Maybe my grommets are too big.

I would just remove the offending grommet and use a deburring tool (https://www.amazon.com/AFA-Tooling-Deburring-High-Speed-Removal/dp/B07RM1D6WD/) and/or sandpaper to make the edges of the hole smooth.

I like sluckey's idea but I think I'd also add a sleeve of heatshrink to the area that will pass through the metal edges of the hole.

You can buy really good double walled heat shrink that has some sort of hot glue in the middle. It will make it really sturdy, but don't use too long of length as it really stiffens up the wire.

Or like you already mentioned you can slice a piece of the grommet off and it shouldn't be a problem.

Never heard of those before. I'll look for some.

Our national department store calls it double walled heat shrink, but I believe it might be better referred to as adhesive lined heat shrink, judging by a quick search. Works excellent in certain applications such as joints to a connector, or splicing wires. But it is basically a permanent solution, it's almost impossible to strip off.

I used to buy heat shrink tubing on eBay or Amacrap, but one day I was perusing McMaster.com for some rivnuts and came across their heat shrink section -- was stunned at the variety of product available. That's where I buy it now . . .

Many thanks for all the advice on this.
I decided just to trim the outside edge of 2 of the grommets.
The cap cover now fits and I'm gonna solder up the power supply and move the build forwards.
I may well have some more trivial questions on my build. It's the minor details that tend to be build specific that I am trying to get correct. Thanks again :icon_biggrin: :icon_biggrin:

And, while you finish your PS soldering, just double or triple check that no cap leads can contact the inside of the cover. But, I'm sure you've got that "covered."
