Hey everybody!!!
Getting set up to begin work on RobRob’s 5e3 Deluxe Mod point to point, and I’m wondering what you all think of this potential chassis setup. Knowing how much more important component location is on a p2p I’m hoping someone has some tips on what I’m doing. I’m thinking I’d like to add both the headphone out AND the line out option. If this is ridiculous please let me know. Btw, I’m building this on a budget with some good previously loved components, so that’s why the dirty old things are in the pics. Heyo. For what it's worth, I built 15 or so amps using recycled chassis, and I stopped doing it because they just about always become logistical nightmares. Meaning that I found I had to work to the predetermined holes etc, or if I covered over them for a better layout, I'd have to make new holes in places that....well, let's just say it gets to be a big pita after a while, and it stopped me from doing better quality work because mostly I was always having to adapt rather than focus on circuit design.
It's great to do all the mods n stuff, but just to get a basic amp working well in a recycled chassis is a feat in itself. You learn a lot about logistics. Best wishes for your project.

I have built a number of amps in "recycled" chassis. But, what I have done is to design/choose the circuit to fit the chassis.
It is hard to tell from your pics, how things are going to come together. I suggest you draw out your layout in DIY Layout Creator. You can draw all the chassis dimensions accurately and then put in all your components and connections. If you do that, you can share it here and get a lot of constructive help.
BTW, the PT looks huge in comparison to the chassis and the OT.

Thanks bud, that’s a great suggestion. Unfortunately for me I have no idea how to use that software. I was going to go off the layout from robs site, to the best of my ability anyway. Also, that tranny fits my spec, so that’s why it was chosen. I have too many amps, and the boss won’t let me spend any more money on new iron. The ot I got for a reverb project that never was, and the tiny thing fits this application perfectly. Hence the big difference in size between the two.

You are Gumby, dammit. You can do it. Joking aside, DIY Layout is wickedly easy to learn. Doug has a whole section of this site dedicated to tips on using it. But you can certainly make out fine without it.
PT, I was wondering if it was going to provide over spec voltage.
Beyond that, for PTP I can only recommend that you follow proper protocols in keeping signal wires away from HT wires as much as possible. Where they occupy the same space, cross at right angles. Follow an accepted method for the heater wiring. New components tend to have wimpy leads compared to the old stuff. That makes PTP a bit more difficult. Spaghetti and heat shrink tubing helps. Judicious use of tag strips also helps.

Thank you for the words of encouragement bubba! Really, I mean that. I did not ask rob about it, but he does outline each individually and I was hoping it was possibly all together. That being said, I’m DEFINITELY going to follow your advice on wire length, tag strips, and keeping signal away from voltage!! As far as heaters go I was thinking drop in from above a la early fender as I did that on my revibe and she’s very quiet and has been reliable. Thanks again!!!

Well boys and girls this is what I’ve come up with so far. I feel like I’ve got a good shot with this basic layout. After a bunch of figuring, and more than one “revamp”, this is what shook out. Make no mistake, I’m still nervous. But, I think I’ve left enough room where I need room, and made things close enough where it’s critical. There are lots of spots for tag strips, and I cleaned several holes to give multiple grounding options. Except for a few star washers that I need to go buy, she’s going to get wiring started this week. We’ll see how it goes after that!!!

Ha! Yes sir, there’s nothing inside yet, all I’ve got done so far is the stuff you see there. There’s no guts inside. I’ve been struggling to figure out what would be best, as this is my first true p2p build. I’m gonna get the actual wiring started this week.

Ok, I’m sorry sir, I didn’t understand that. I’ve never tried that before. But, I will. Not that I’m coming up with much, robrob’s general layout will be my template. I’ll get on that after work today and tomorrow, as Tuesdays are my day off. Thank you for letting me know!

Yes sir!!! 100% that’s the one. With the addition (hopefully) of a line out option. Rob has an example of how to do it on that same page. If I can’t make
It work with both the headphone and L.O. options I’d just loose the L.O., but I think it would be cool. The little thing would be REAL versatile, and a very useable option here at the house.

Good morning everyone,
I finished the RR 5E3 DMM last night and I’m getting no sound. My B+ voltages at B1 and B2 are near Evers Rob lists them for this build, as well as my plate and cathode voltages at both v1 and 2. I did solid state rectification per the basic layout he has posted, so no ez. My question first off is this, my pt has no 6.3 CT. I created and artificial tap w/the 2 100ohm resistors, but I connected them to the v2 cathode, as this is what the layout indicates where the CT from the pt should land. Is this correct, or should the resistors go straight to ground? Also, would this ground out my signal? I get zero pops or clicks when probing around the tube socket pins, so I’m assuming my signal is dying fairly early in its path. I’m not sure anyone can decipher my rats nest, but I’ll post some pics of what I’ve done. As always thanks to you all for your help and encouragement. Any assistance would be much appreciated.
