Title: Blues Deluxe Reissue Popping Noise
Post by: evad567 on March 26, 2023, 09:52:02 am
Hi all; first post here, still new to this.

I have a Fender Blues Deluxe Reissue that's been crackling, popping, and making a high pitched "hiss" when turned on. It's been in the shop 4 times this month and evertime it's "fixed" only to break down again after an hour or so. Recently it just starts immediately. I've noticed that the drive channel light occasionally flashes, as if it might be channel switching, but thats not consistent. The tech was convinced it's just "crummy ribbon cables", but the other night I removed those and just hardwired. Sadly, I ruled that out, as it made no difference. Tubes are brand new. A supreme Fromel mod kit has been done a year ago with no issues. In fact, the issues only started when the tech poked around for a tune up/rebias.

Here is a link to the sound.

And a link to the schematic.

Anyone have any thoughts on what that could be?

Popcorn in a microwave, never heard that noise in an amp??? Usually popping sounds are loose connections, bad solder joints, loose tube pins and the like. Maybe start with re-tentioning the tube pins, tab on each tube, tighten the socket pins on the nosiest tubes first with ice pick, do all sockets.
