Title: Philco 727

Speaking of dog's breakfasts, here's a neat old console from 1949ish?

It had a blown transformer which was probably a godsend, because there was absolutely no room to work in this chassis, it measures about 6"x16"x2".  They must have been really hard up for steel after the war, because they could have made the chassis twice as big.  The 12" field coil speaker works well, as well as all the Loctal tubes, and it's powered with 2 6k6's.

I dropped in a tranny specced for a marshall 18 watt, and moved it to the top of the chassis where the old can caps were, and then placed new filter caps where the tranny was, as well as a 3 prong plug and a fuse holder.

It picks up AM stations really well, in fact I was even picking short wave stations, whatever that means...

The record player works well, sounds pretty good, except I'm currently trying to figure out the changing mechanisms, it's sort of like the internals of a watch in there.  I've been trying to figure out a way to get it all working without taking it apart, but I think I'll have to bite the bullet soon because just cleaning and balancing things from the outside is only getting minor results.
