Title: Mackie 220w Power supply
Post by: rake on April 10, 2023, 11:35:52 am
Hey guys (and gals), an old friend of mine called in a panic. He has a studio,
2 24 track HD recorders, 1 8 track analog tape machine (for recording solo's),
a 32 channel Mackie 8 bus and a 24 channel expaner board. Well, one of his power
supplies lost the 5v section right as he had a big act coming in. So, I loaned him
the supply from my 8 bus mixer and checked his out. Most techs that have worked
on them say it's always always the regulator and they are no longer available.
(not true, ebay China, France or UK) Anyway, I have 4 on hand so I agreed to
see if it can be fixed. The reg tested bad in circuit but good out of circuit.
I said screw it and shotgunned everything in the 5v section 1 reg, 5 diodes, 2 e-caps,
1 1/4w resistor and a .01uf ceramic cap. Power supply is back in action so I checked the bits
just to see who done it! LOL! Well the .01 cap has now decided to identify itself as a
20 ohm resistor!!!!
This little bugger goes from reg output to ground. So, I guess it ain't always the regulator huh?
