I bought a StewMac pedal kit, the LED diode that came with the kit is white. I have some red LED’s l’d like to use. Using my meter on diode setting the white lights up and reads 2.58v, the red lights up reads 1.80v. Can l use the red in place of the white?
My meter uses 3vdc, the pedal 9vdc

Kit came with no schematic, just instructions, no indication what voltage is applied to LED. Pedal runs on 9v battery or adapter of 9vdc. Only info, l posted above is voltage shown on my meter testing each LED.
I know diodes only pass the voltage they are rated for.

The diodes are 3mm and say compatible with JHS pedals, only info on the red diodes posted

Since I have no clue how the LED is being used, I will advise to use the white LED supplied with the kit.

From the small PCB that came with the kit, the LED has the K to ground and the Anode to DC. So, since the pedal takes 9vdc, DC is 9 volts..?
I guess the red LED either lights or not, if not, l can’t see the wrong LED damaging the circuit, just blowing the LED, sound correct?
If the red blows, l can always use red nail polish on the white, :icon_biggrin: .

Ok, reading the PCB the anode LED lead has a 3k9 R in front of it, most likely 12vdc.after the R. Any help?

This is a Klon pedal retake, now l hear the original Klon took a 9vdc supply but had circuitry that brought the voltage to 24vbc..? So, maybe that’s why the 3.9k R, seemed high to me.
Guess l could experiment with different valves for brightness. Not bright enough, lower R.

If it’s the Ghost Drive it looks like the LED is just the circuit engaged indicator. If that’s the case you could use any color LED you wanted. Just adjust the LEDR to your preferred brightness. Start with the stock resistor and go from there. I typically use a 12K on all my builds because I hate a blinding LED. On the other hand if you ever use it outside the. You don’t want it too dim. I’ve never seen an LED anywhere else in a klon unless you were using them for clipping diodes and the klon isn’t really known for that.
