Title: Question for Tubnit
Post by: Tone Junkie on July 25, 2023, 04:53:09 pm
Jeff which of the Dumble style type amps you guys came up with had the chime control. I forgot looking to build another. Thank You Bill

I don't remember one specifically with a chime control?  Doesn't mean there wasn't one like that though. The TOS Tweed Overdrive Special had a FAT control.  I'm wondering if that is what you are referring to?

And I did a version of the D'Mars that had sort of a psuedo tone stack bypass/parallel thing. Maybe you're thinking of that one?

Or are you thinking of the "Enhance cap" which a cap like 120p to 220p across the LTPI plate resistor? It helped eliminate some high end harshness.   Do a search on "enhance cap" if that's what you're referring to.

No I use the enhance cap on a lot of things. I will just have to go thru my stack of schematics. Yea this was a one off you guys did. I built the amp. Liked that control on the clean a lot. Was just going to do the clean channel with that. Sad thing is I can’t remember. At the time I had built 4 or 5 of the different variations you guys kept coming up with liked them all. Thanks Bill

Hmmm ...........  You really have me curious now?

I'm wondering what it was also?  I'm thinking it might of been DaGeezer who came up with a "chime control".  He designed the HoSo56 amp also & I could see how a chime control could be useful on that amp.

IF you find it, please consider sharing the schematic with us.  Sorry, I could not be more helpful.

...... Tubenit removed the original master vol and replaced it with the "chime control" ( i've called it "CRUNCH")and i was thinking of putting in another pot for a "volume" pot as the volume pot off pin7 V1 acts more like a GAIN control ( i was unaware that this amp when cranked had some pretty big NUTS and really SMOOTH/WICKED distortion ). .......

.... The chime control is subtle. However, IF I switch the PAB on/off while playing you should hear a difference in tone. And if you turn the chime control you should hear a difference also. IF not, I'd try different values of caps there, maybe go smaller to a 330p. ....

Thanks Franco much appreciated. I really liked that amp. But I’m a sucker for my friends who play all the time. And love my builds. Ok truth is they bribe me with money . Lol I will bread board it and make sure it was the clean channel I loved it on. Thanks Bill
