The difference will be how effective the tone control is in its cut / CCW end of the range.
1 should provide a more consistent performance over the range of the volume control. With 2, there’ll probably be more interaction between the volume and tone controls at the cut end (there already will be at the boost side of things).

#1 is the stock circuit for the 5F2A tweed Princeton and 5F10 Harvard. Maybe even more tweeds. #2 can be found in the Marshall 1974 18W. I have a Harvard and an 18W. Tone controls works fine in both amps. The amps don't sound the same but oranges don't taste like apples either.   :icon_biggrin:
