Title: 6G6-B build - planning stages
Post by: Esquirefreak on August 30, 2023, 06:19:28 pm
Hi!

I just noticed that Mojotone is offering a blonde Bassman chassis and faceplates, so I'm considering building one. I already have the most expensive parts on hand (transformers and a bassman cabinet).

I wanted to take the opportunity and plan ahead. So I have a couple of questions.

× Is it a good Idea to move the BASS channel supply node further down stream for noise suppression? Like after the 4k7 or 27k resistors and decreasing the original 56k resistor accordingly? It doesn't seem optimal to have a preamp supply node so close to the screen node.

× Is the original grounding system good enough or has anyone developed a better one? My initial plan was to use a bus wire. PA and preamp grounds as far away from each other as possible.

I'm gonna build the circuit stock and adjust if needed. I know that some minor tweaks can be done to make the BASS channel more guitar friendly.

Any advice, experience, do:s and don't:s is greatly appreciated.

/Max

Leo had a pretty good plan. I would stick to it if you really want a 6G6-B. If you want improvements just build one of the later Bassmans.
