Title: Is this Output Transformer Ok for Weber 6O100 Orange Build?
Post by: waldner on January 09, 2024, 04:31:31 pm
I'm building the Weber 6O100 (Orange/Matamp) Kit and they are out of stock on the output transformer- the WOT100.  It looks like I could substitute the Mojotone British 900 Style OT but I wanted to make sure?  See specs for each attached.

The impedance on the Weber that normally comes with the kit is 1900 ohms.  The mojo's impedance is 1800 ohms.  Close enough?  The rest seems the same.

1800 or 1900 are really the same for an OT

The thing is to be looked at is the correct Power/Current rating of the winding

Ok, thanks.  I don't see any more detailed info on the specs for either transformer other than they say they are both rated for 100 watts and both of the designs typically run 4xEL34 (or 4xKT77 or 4x6L6) tubes.   Not sure if that's enough to go on though?

I don't know what else you'd need to know  if the seller says it's rated for 100W and it has the right inputs and outputs and footprint then it should be what you are looking for .

Here is a Hammond  https://www.hawkusa.com/manufacturers/hammond-mfg/enclosures/1750x (https://www.hawkusa.com/manufacturers/hammond-mfg/enclosures/1750x)

That should be enough specifications to satisfy your curiosity.

The color-coding seems to be designed to infuriate people who demand a Standard Color Code. Like everything different.

'The color-coding seems to be designed to infuriate people who demand a Standard Color Code. Like everything different.'

That to me, all other things considered, would be enough reason to go for the Weber.

I'm waiting for a Brit to tell us the Mojo follows a British Standard and the BS guys didn't read US/Can EIA color standards.

Weber   probably made in PRC
Hammond made in Canada
the Mojo is most likely made in USA by Heyboer
Also notice the Hammond has a 1.7K primary winding

The Hammond 1750x is a laydown OT   the Hammond 1750U is a stand-up 100W variant.
