Title: Fender Twin Reverb 130w Capacitor pan / capacitor cover / doghouse cover
Post by: jessetrbo on February 26, 2024, 02:16:54 pm
Greetings:

I need to purchase a filter capacitor cover (aka capacitor pan, aka doghouse cover) for a 1978 Fender Twin Reverb.  It’s the 130w model and has extra filter caps… which makes finding a cover impossible.

The measurement for screw holes on center is approx 8 1/4”.  The more popular size is a full one inch smaller.

Thanks for your consideration!

If you can't find a used one on reverb/ebay then it is possible to get one bent form sheet metal to your specs.

I hope you find it pre-made. Otherwise:

If all the other dimensions are the same, slice and stretch. Either get two and cut an end off each one, or get one, cut, and bend up a 1" scrap of steel to weld in. If you have a regular car mechanic, he can probably do it for a few bucks.

Go to a very fancy baking-supplies shop and look at little breadpans.

Any medium city has HVAC duct makers, basically metal-benders. If you can fold it in paper, they can brake it out of scrap sheet; some may have dies to stamp like Fender. Here's one in my general area (my guy doesn't do websites):

If you can whittle or route a wood pattern, male or female, you can knock it out yourself. Use a ballpeen hammer, or a cut of broomstick, dowel, or oak branch, rounded.

Take a day in the junkyard. Some auto-modules are almost cheap enough to re-purpose. Ford made an over-designed ignition which failed a lot, so I used to have a pile of dead ones, but also demand kept new-price down.

The "potting" was pretty cheesy, throw in bonfire and should burn out.

Thanks for the good suggestions… cutting the smaller on in half and modifying is pretty ingenious.

I use https://seasidechassisdesign.com (https://seasidechassisdesign.com) exclusively now.

Very reasonable prices and his chassis's and doghouses are works of art.

Obviously, if you have a local fabricator, that's best.

Did you resolve this? If not, I would just use smaller capacitors and predrill for the largest doghouse you can get. F&T are much smaller than the originals, and the recently introduced Mojotone caps are super small. All work fine in my experience.
