So I am helping my son with his 240z project
The antenna is a motorized assembly that was rusted shut.
Got it apart turning and in fact got the motor spinning with 12vdc about a week ago
Today I applied the same voltage and it doesn't turn.
Inspected everything that I could disassembled again and cleaned everything again, no luck
Thinking someone might have some helpful wisdom
It has a permanent magnet with brushes.

rotate so each brush is over a copper plate, ohm the "far-end" of each red n green to the copper plate corresponding to the wire
if you have continuity rotate motor slooow, see if you loose continuity
clean the gaps between plate with a toothpick
more angles of the motor
-
Gaps had already been cleaned out with toothpick
When one side brush centered on plate, other brush is centered on gap
very small resistances (If I understand your instruction)
green wire to red wire ~1ohm doesn't change when rotating slowly (continuity thru 360)
green wire to near plate 0.4ohm, green to opposite plate 1.2ohm
red wire to near plate 0.3ohm, red to opposite plate 1.3ohm
Also double checked there are no coil shorts to ground.

Yes of course thanks so much for this tip. This would be like using modern electrolytics in our vintage fender.
But part of the learning adventure is fixing the original.
Son doesn't even plan on using it in the car as it is becoming a track racer.
Hoping I can overcome.

I suspect that part has not changed since 1970. Well, supplied to Datsun it had the one head grommet instead of the eight different heads.
At least I didn't suggest a Small Block Chevy.

don't give him ideas.
he already is blueprinting the larger engine spec'd for turbo pressure so it will be a rocket ship.
At least he added some grab bars for test rides with mom

When I apply 14vdc from power supply the voltage and current meters on the supply spike
maybe a short somehow just can't figure it...
-
240Z... so envious. In this part of the world they all rusted into the void many years ago.

grab bars for test rides with mom
we called 'em AH SHEET handles
was down in eastern Kty for a weekend campout. took the WRX specifically to set "lap-times" on a couple fire service roads. I needed to get in a night run, Wife n Sister said they wanted to ride along, "under 1 condition, you don't say a word" the wife was white-knuckles, sister was watching between the seats huge grin. Wife didn't say a word when we got back, sister; "That was some of the best driving I've ever seen"

not sure what I did.
removed armature again carefully cleaned brushes again
assembled housing again with the intent of walking away
but applied power and viola its alive (again)
When I was testing earlier did not have the housing bolted down was held in place by hand, doubt that could have made a difference.
Some eye candy too. Son hand made the rollbars (ah sheet) and floor pan replacement
beginning to reassemble. running again this weekend. Been consuming garage for tooo long.

wife said the same thing when it took me 8 months to re-build my flat-4 motor back up. A paycheck only goes soooo far
