I have a Chinese input jack, see attached photos. I think this is the same as this Switchcraft one.
https://www.amplifiedparts.com/products/14-jack-switchcraft-mono-shunt-tip. Will this be OK to use as a guitar input jack?
Cheers.

Yes, this Switchraft is the good one and the best one. Go ahead !

So I'm good to go, using the Chinese jack I have? Photos 1-5.
Cheers.

Yes it is electrical the same , very cheap, but it will work. Will it last many years ?
I will never use them, you may have a bad ground issue = noise, hum....

If I was to pick a location on my rig to have a cheap jack, it would be the guitar!
Come to think of it, not sure I ever bought a guitar that didn't have a cheap jack :m13

That metal looks awful thin.
Start saving-up for a Good Brand jack for when this one lets you down.

In my experiences, they are not. Jacks are one area I upgrade to get rid of these chinese jacks. I don’t skimp on jacks at all when possible. Especially being a wear item. Jacks, Pots and switches are worth the extra $ unless you’re in a pinch and that’s all you got.

While I have encountered this jack and it "works" I have found shortcomings.
Usually poor mechanical strength and I have seen insulation creep from "one second too long" with the soldering iron.
I have to agree with PRR and Jalmeida, ie spend your money on a quality Jack (which is robust and reliable).

why would you use a shunted jack on a guitar?
quality switchcraft jack will cost $3

Why not use a stereo jack? Does it matter?, nope. Suspecting, that's the jack he has.

Not on a guitar. Read the top post again.

Post is about an amp .
As you know, we can use any king of jack on a guitar; standard jack, schunted type jack or stereo jack.
The two last one are only little more expensive.

yep I misread the post.

Question about jacks, while we're on the subject..
Are stereo (TRS) type jacks used as a mono jack + NO switch in applications like effects boxes, active pickup electronics, etc?
So when you jack-in with a mono (TS) plug, you get both the TS audio circuit and a closed switch contact to ground between R & S thar can power up electronics?

Many effect pedals use a stereo jack on the input. The battery ground connection connects to the "ring" and connects to the sleeve when a mono plug is inserted. The battery is disconnected when no plug is inserted. Saves batteries. Even my 1970 Crybaby uses a stereo jack as a battery saver.

Right, that's exactly the sort of thing I had envisioned. Thanks.
