Title: Original Crybaby GCB-95: behaving like a Treble knob
Post by: GuitarPilot65 on March 10, 2024, 03:18:51 pm
Annoying issue: when I switch it on it "wahs," but it's as if it also turns into a treble knob which is pegged at 10. Tone returns to normal when Crybaby is switched off. Any diagnostic feedback is appreciated.

check the relationship of the rheostat gear on the pot and the rack gear operated by the pedal. should have full (normal) treb when the pedal is depressed

slipped gear

I appreciate your response. Would you please elaborate on what you mean by "slipped gear"?

It means the gear on the pot may have slipped on the pot shaft or the ratchet arm and now needs adjustment. Disengage the gear and rotate the pot manually. If you can get your sweet wah sound then all you have to do is realign the gear on the pot or rotate the pot body until you are in the right wahwah range of rotation. This may take several tries before you are satisfied.

That crybaby does not use the entire 300° pot rotation so even when replacing a pot you still have to do the alignment.
