Title: Carstens grace: what makes it tick?
Post by: Porpoise Head on May 26, 2024, 02:55:24 pm
Hi all,

I was looking into trainwreck express amps, but wanted to make something higher gain yet in similar vein and stumbled onto a yt video showing the similarity between the trainwreck and the Carstens grace. I realise that a yt video is not necessarily good reference material, but I can hear the similarities. The grace has 4 (!) 12ax7's, and that's without effects loop. I can't for the life of me figure out where all those triode stages would go (if it is truly a trainwreck workalike). Does anyone have any idea of a block-diagram type signal flow of the grace? I am not at all trying to clone the grace, I just think it sounds great and am interested in how it's built up as reference material for my own builds.

Thanks in advance,

Hans
