Title: Trace Elliot RAH600SMX Fuse Question
Post by: dpm309 on June 05, 2024, 04:04:17 pm
Have a Trace Elliot RAH600SMX that powers up but no sound. This amp was dropped and when I opened it up and noticed the Torroidal Tranny had come loose and bumped into a fuse. The preamp tube was not getting any power and the fuse was blown.  Someone had previously socketed the fuse to span both F1 and F2 making it easier to change out this fuse without pulling the PCB. I have attached a couple of pictures and the schematic. I have some fuses on order from British Audio to see if that solves the problem. My question is how could the tranny bumping the fuse cause it to blow or is something else going? Also is one fuse sufficient or should I install both. When I get the fuses I will power it up with a light bulb limiter to see if something else is shorted out. Did not see any other signs of damage other than the fuse getting bumped. Thanks

something else
that's a pretty good distance to travel, so the impact probably caused "something else"
was the fuse holder intact?
was there a tear in the Mylar of the tranny?

There was no fuse holder for this fuse. When I first opened it up, the fuse was bent off of the socket. Checked continuity and it was blown. They are usually soldered to the PCB making them hard to replace. Someone in the past, added a socket for ease of replacing. Once I get the fuses, I will be able to see if anything else is wrong.

Also, there was no tears in the Mylar.

i assumed image 1 was before "socket", image 2 was after socket.

The socket was already installed. I pulled the fuse before taking the 2nd picture. I am wondering if this amp had blown this fuse before prompting an amp tech to install the socket for ease of replacing it. Otherwise, you would have to pull the PCB to replace. I have worked on several Trace Elliot amps lately and it is very labor intensive to remove these PCBs.

Finally got the fuses from British Audio and popped one in. Amp fired up and seems to be working as it should. I'll bench test it a bit before I call it done.
