Title: Princeton Reverb build Transformer location

Hi Folks

A couple of questions about transformer location. Will it make for a noisy build if I place my output transformer as pictured? The PT has no 5 volt winding so ill be using the last tube socket to mount diodes for solid state rectification. Also there is about a 1/2 inch gap between the 6v6 and the power transformer. Will the 6v6 get hot enough to mess with the insulation on the transformer at that distance? I have about 3/4 of an inch of space between the pt and the control side of the chassis.

This may be of some use to you regarding the tubes and the PT spacing. Having said that, I am not familiar with that type of PT?

That looks really cramped to me & I would not be comfortable having the PT that close to a power tube


I have mounted an Antek of the inside of the chassis on a couple projects, the one pictured below is a 6G15 reverb built in a Princeton chassis. They are just shallow enough to fit, no noise issues having it on the inside. Is yours actually a PR chassis, looks narrow..?

If it was my project, I would probably mount the PT inside & ditch the rectifier tube socket for whatever extra room that might contribute. Just as easy to make a little rectifier board as to use the socket, in my mind.

This is what I deserve for using an oversized pt that can handle the current draw from 6l6's. I'll ditch the socket and move the pt as far away as I can. Thanks tdvt!
