salvaged subwoofer spkr good 4 Champ guitar amp?
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I have a speaker from a jbl subwoofer, 150 watt i believe. will it make a good speaker in a guitar amp? I just scratch built my first tube amp, a champ aa764 with a 6l6, and was wondering if it would work well with it. Or are they designed for lower freqs. Or should i use it on a more powerful design? Thanks Roy

I don't think you are going to hurt a 150W JBL with a Champ.
If it is a sub woofer, you may not get much at higher freqs., but it will help the lows and may sound pretty big for a Champ.
If it is in an open back cabinet, that will even out the responce some.
Most JBLs have a high sensitivity rating, so that will also make it sound bigger than it is.
Do you have a model ****** for that speaker?
If you do, you can go to the JBL site and learn a lot more about it.

You should really use a guitar amp speaker. For a champ you could get a 8" speaker from Weber for as little as $25. Hifi Audio speakers don't work well with guitar amps. I've tried a few hifi speakers for the hell of it because they were kicking around and they always sound like sh!@#t. The frequency response is all wrong.
