Title: Effects of Helene on Hoffman Amps
Post by: mresistor on September 28, 2024, 01:10:20 pm
Doug has lost power/internet at his house so there may be some issues with orders and ordering. I don't know for sure  but he asked to let everyone know it could be a few days before getting back to function at his place.  Says there are trees down everywhere.

Sorry to hear that. As humid as it is post storm, no A/C is a MoFo!
I'm a few hours east of Doug near the pasture pool capitol of the world (Pinehurst)
and all we got was 1/2 a day of heavy rain! I sure hope the rest of the gang got through
unscathed!

Glad to hear that Doug is safe!  It may be quite a while before power is restored.  Asheville has been wiped out, I 40 is closed. No way in or out! Busick NC. Got 28.5” of rain in 48 hours!  This is a huge catastrophe!  Thousands of people have lost everything!!!  I’m near Knoxville Tn. now where we got about 8” of rain just 50 miles east of us dams failed with some small towns being washed away!   Very sad!  Wish there was something I could do to help out.

Hi all,
My property suffered lots of damage from the recent hurricane.

Many trees were knocked down.
One tree landed on the shop building and punctured the roof in the CNC machine room.
Water was coming in the building but I was able to finally stop it by going on the roof and using a tarp to cover the holes.

There is no power, no internet and no way to get packages out currently.

I have a backup power system that is powering my building.
Internet access is only possible if I use a cell signal amplifier in my vehicle and set my phone up on data as a Wi-Fi hot spot.
My PC can pick up that hot spot about 20 feet away from my vehicle.
It is very slow but I can do some things.

I am able to process orders via PayPal payments at the moment.
I am packing up orders waiting for pickups to begin again.
I have no idea when the USPS will be back in service?

I just wanted to give my customers and forum members a heads up that I am processing orders but have no way to ship them out.

Hopefully I can get back up and running soon.
I'll keep you updated

Doug,
I'm hoping for the best for you, family, and friends. I just heard from a Nephew who works for Duke Power in the Research Triangle area. They have sent all available crews to your area. Even our power company in Maine has headed down. Hopefully things get moving in a positive direction soon. I trust that your customers will be patient.

Power came back on a couple hours ago here.
Duke Power had said it would be the 4th but I got an early surprise.
Now I am waiting for internet to be restored

Well, the effects of Helene have finally hit here where I live! The OL went to three grocery stores after work
and not one damn roll of TP on the shelves anywhere!  :BangHead:

Doug;
Are you ready for new orders or would you rather we hold off a bit?
I know it can be hard to get caught up after a disaster like this!

Even in the aftermath of a hurricane Doug gets your orders right out!
That's SERVICE! TYVM Doug!

Guys, if you can afford to, shoot an order out to Doug!
Let our brother know we care. If you've ever lived through a natural disaster
any show of human kindness and decency will help warm the heart.
It's scary how alone one feels after a disaster like this!

Wow. Thank God your alive. A tree could have hit your house and killed you.

I saw a clip where the guy was talking about and showing on a topo map how the high elevations caused the rain run off to reach high speeds as it drained down the mountains and that was the double knock out punch. The rain run off ran down 3 and 4 thousand feet.  :w2:

I live behind a huge 600 acre bowl with mountains on 3 sides.
A creek exits on the fourth side and empties into a lake.
Pisgah National Forest backs up to the 600 acre property

We have a dam on the lake with a large bypass so that excess water can get out of the lake
It is inspected every year
The spill way around the dam is probably 50 feet wide
Water in the spillway was 24 inches high going around the dam.

There's a million dollar +  home right below the dam
I would not want to live in that house.

I am 2300 feet up and so, flooding is not an issue here unless we have another biblical event and I am instructed to build a boat.  :icon_biggrin:

Well Doug, Helene just keeps on giving! Today is SSA payment day but when I checked this AM it wasn't there!
Bank said that they were coming in in dribs and drabs. SSA first blamed it on the bank but others using different banks
were also "late"! Then came the hurricane excuse! WTF!  :BangHead: :cussing: :BangHead: :cussing: :dontknow:
