Title: Speaker swap question
Post by: Shrapnel on October 28, 2024, 10:05:02 pm
I have a question here in regards to a speaker swap.
I have a Peavey Triumph PAG 60 combo. It has that HEAVY Sheffield speaker in it, and of course it adds to the weight.
The question is what would be a decent speaker to swap in and give it a weight reduction?
I've been eyeballing a Celestion Midnight 60 for the job, but not 100% about the power handling or the impedance. Opinions?
[mods: if this is the wrong forum, please move it to the correct one.]

Thanks for the  link to the manual.

As to the weight of the speaker, I haven't weighed mine, but based on the following video (
i=Q7Rg5WAka1Gh9EjP ) It comes in at 16 pounds 4 ounces, assuming there was no change in the speaker when the original Triumph 60 was updated to the Triumph PAG 60. In this video, the guy is swapping out for that Jensen you mentioned in his Triumph 60.

I have had great results from the Eminence Lil' Texas.  It's a 12" neodymium magnet speaker that is 8 ohms and rated at 125 watts.  Has sounded great with every amp I've tried it with and is of course very lightweight.  It's what I use in my electronics bench test cabinet.  Plugged into a JCM800 right now...
