So in keeping with my apparent MO of building amps inside of gutted Traynor YBA-1's (Trainwreck Express circuit, Matchless Chieftain, and now this), I've completed my Matchless Brave circuit (the preamp from the C30, power amp from the Chieftain).
I don't have an EF86 yet, but the 12AX7 channel sounds awesome. Here is some really bad riffing through it:
Here here's a photo of the guts. I ended up reusing a 50/50uF cap that I pulled from an old JCM800 (one of the other ones was leaky, so I replaced all of them - this one doesn't show signs of leaks so I'll use it until it starts to be a problem) and the 22uF caps called for in the Matchless schematics were replaced with 32uF ones that I had on hand):
