Title: High gain plexi?
Post by: fossilshark on December 04, 2024, 08:43:21 am
Hi all, I am in a bit of a predicament. A while ago I had 2 chassis fabricated for JCM800 2204s, however I now want a Plexi.

Since the chassis only has a hole for 1 gain knob (I can squeeze another pot next to it but it would look ugly) do you guys think it would sound good if I cascaded the V1 gain stages and wired the 2 input jacks to be high and low like the input of a JCM800? I'm sure I can tweak the cathode component values if needed and not mess up the layout too much.

So, crowded faceplate or high gain Plexi?

Do you have room for small switches? PharmRock did something kinda similar in this thread "This basically is a mod to a 1959 circuit that allows for switchable 2204, including the Lo Input."

Thats not a bad idea, so I can switch between stock plexi and 2204. I am definitely going to look into that.
