Title: lubricating a sliding eq
Post by: pbman1953 on February 21, 2025, 09:43:19 am
This sis the eq panel to an Acoustic 370 bass amp.
The eq sliders are very noisy. Is ok to spray directly into the slider channel, from the front, or does this need to be taken off

Thanks

I think it's ok to try without taking the panel off -- you're not likely to hurt anything.   But the closer to the fader you can get, the more likely success.

I use Caig Deoxit Fader Series products for this job.  I do think it works a little better and is safer for these linear controls.   Or maybe I have just drunk their koolaid . . .   still, that's what I use.

In the Pro Audio world (mixers and the like), I was always taught to only use a proper fader cleaner and lube.  Not exactly sure what the difference is, but the guys who taught me that stuff were not at all prone to snake oil.

Yes , put the amp upside down when spraying to exit the dust.
And slide the controls 0 to 10  at least 20 times.

fader cleaner and lube.

I fixed a guys mixer a few times n did "open up" the sliders to clean n lube.  I used a "Deoxit" cleaner, then used a lube designed for electronics (Can't recall name), used the same stuff on the gears n pot in  whaa pedal.

just a cleaner alone tended to "dry out" the smooth operation of the slides.  The hold-down tabs got bridle over time though, so you could only open them up so much before the tabs broke
