Title: Moonlight Tone Control

On the moonlight tone control, why not just use a 250K pot instead of the 1M pot / 270K resistor? Is there something else to this?

You're right, the circuit could be simplified. But in a manufacturing situation it can make more sense to keep only a limited range of parts in stock, e.g. 500k and 1M pots for everything, instead of buying a 250k pot 'just for this one application'.
