Hi,
I'm Steve from near Bristol in UK. I've been playing bass and guitar since about 1974. I was a pro bass player when I was a kid and did this for about 15 years. Had to get a proper job eventually! Now a management consultant but coming up for retirement in the next year. I've been building speakers a long time as couldn't get anything good enough at reasonable cost for the size of venues I was playing. Settled on fEarfuls in the end and have built quite a few. I currently play in two bands. A 18 piece big band and a rock quartet. completely different which is great.
I started building tube amps only this year. 1st project was a Ceriatone SSS 100w kit. It went well. I had it checked over by a pro tech and he found two dry joints but apart from that it was OK.
Next project I wanted to design & build a "best possible" amp for our guitarist, who is a gifted soloist. I based it on a vibroverb but in a super reverb chassis. I used circuit layouts from Rob Robinette, put in a London Power pream mod, I changed the blackface tremolo(it sucked) to my own version of Sluckeys' Trem-o-nator and this sounds great. Amp has a 4 button footswitch with reverb, trem, overdrive and boost. All driven in to a Celestion alnico creamback. I think it combines the best clean guitar and overdrive I've heard. I'm pleased with it. Saturday our guitarist gigged it and it was worth all the effort to see the big smiles on his face during the gig.
I like to thanks all the experts on this forum as I have used it a lot. together with Rob Robs site and Amp Garage. I have another 3 projects lined up but that needs a post somewhere else.
Thanks to all here.
Steve
