Title: Headstock Decals
Post by: EL34 on January 27, 2026, 03:11:21 pm
I saw these on Amazon and I thought I would give them a try
I was not expecting them to be as cool as they ended up being
These are not water slide decals
They are a 3 layer assembly

Layer 1 is a a paper backing
Layer 2 is the actual decal
Layer 3 is a very thin clear top sheet that holds the decal together until you peel it off

First you peel off the decal and top film as a unit from the paper backing
I used some double stick tape and stuck the whole thing down so it was easier to lift the decal and top sheet off the paper backing
I used a new Exacto blade to grab the edges of the top clear sheet and peel it off

You stick the decal and top sheet down to the head stock
You rub the decal down hard so it is firmly attached
Then you peel off the thin clear top sheet

It is a bit thicker than a water slide decal but not as delicate
The decal backing is very sticky and hard to remove from the guitar (Ask me how I know that)
I screwed up the extra one they sent and had to remove it
It was not easy to remove it
I used some sticker remover and a razor blade

I ordered two decals thinking I would probably screw one up but they sent 3
They multi decal discounts
The first one is $7.69 but another one is $2.95

I think it looks great on my custom Jazzmaster

I also added that triple string tree
I ordered another custom decal for my baritone Jazzmaster

After you were talking about intonation on the other thread, how are you find a triple string tree with the tremolo, is it working good?

I've got a 'Wudtone' bridge on my Strat, it has a thin cigarette paper sized shim of metal under the bridge for a better surface, and milled screw holes to get the return to zero better, but I'm wondering if extra string trees and a bit more nut fiddling will get it even better...

Don't know yet
It does seems like the B and E strings do return to zero better
But I had a weird tree that was supposed to be a roller, but it did not seems to roll

I have always had weird things going on with the G string and so I thought I would try the triple tree and see if that made any difference
I need more seat time to figure out how the triple tree is working out

One thing to keep, ion mind is that my trem bar stuff on the Jazzmaster is very subtle
So there's no dive bombing going on  :icon_biggrin:

Thanks for posting this Doug.  Those look really cool. Do you remember the name of the seller?  When I clicked the link it took me to a generic list of crafting supplies.  I tried to search for "custom decal" and did not see anything that looked like what you got.
