Minds do wander to places they should not go . . .
Kinda expensive as a tube replacement. But the Chinese will be on the way soon with cheaper versions!

Not surprising somebody came up with this. But definitely too pricey to buy some just to check them out.

The world is obsessed with everything fake. Not me.

Fetrons made a lot of sense from an engineering standpoint — they were plug-in solid-state tube replacements with long life and low power requirements.
Musically, though, they just didn’t behave like real triodes in a guitar amp, and most players preferred the feel and response of actual tubes.
The new octal versions will probably be better than the old Fetrons, but spending a lot of money to get something that real tubes still do naturally (as long as they’re still available) doesn’t seem like a great deal.
In the guitar world, music always wins over technical specs.

I got a Jet City solid state 12AX7 replacement along with a bunch of tubes I bought on ebay once. I tried it out to see how good it was, and it worked but was rather lifeless sounding compared to various tubes I tested around the same time. I expect people to keep trying to make substitutes to feed all those tubes in amps that people are going to keep around forever, knowing that at some point, manufacturing of vacuum tubes will cease.

[/nerd_mode] Uh-oh, I missed the presale. [/end_nerd_mode]

I could see these being useful for prototyping and testing, especially for testing output transformers. Though not at the current price point.
