I have a humming transformer that only gets worse as the amp warms up, and I suspect it's because the transformer is cheap. I tried putting a band around it & that helps some, but I just want to know if there's a good replacement from either a 40 watt Fender or Marshall that doesn't carry a boutique price.

You could take a look at antek. They are round and come in a variety of voltages. I have used them with great success.

If the 3rd party schematics are accurate, the Hammond 290HX should work. leave the yellow CT wire disconnected - Tape off and secure. You may have to open up the PT mounting holes or drill new holes.
