Title: 5E5A in a 5E7 cab
Post by: tubeswell on August 22, 2026, 06:42:59 pm
Beware Google AI - gave me the wrong cab dimensions when I was on a critical part of the critical path! I'd already got all the other bits for a 5E5A and decided to build the cab myself just for the hell of it. Now I've got acres of baffle real estate and can plonk a 15" speaker right in the middle. If need be I can do a BM baffle and rear panel all over and get another forgery badge - time will tell.

I bet a 15" would sound great with that circuit. I have a 15" Big Ben in my Marshall 1974 18 watt and love it. And my old Gemini II was really nice with that 15" Jensen Concert. I'm really fond of big cones.

Nice job on that cabinet build. Some say bigger is better.

Same - that thought drove my amp fever onward - Google AI mistakes'n'all

Nice job on that cabinet build.

Thanks - My first time using a blind dovetail jig (even though I worked in a joinery factory when I was younger - over 40 years ago - they never had one of those at the time). It was so easy I'm just going to build all my caps that way from now on

Awesome job mate, Beware, if the word gets that you build cabs your phone won't stop ringing  :icon_biggrin:

That's a great tweed amp!

Those 5E5a amps came with a 15" speaker. I have a WGS 15" alnico I love.

Rory Gallagher used the Fender tweed 5E series Bassman amp, 5E6a. It's was same as yours but used the Bassman 4x10's and had 2x5U4 rectifiers. But he might have been using just 1 of those rectifier tubes for more sag? We don't know.

And he ran a Top Boost into the front input. Listen to Irish Tour Live 74. Strat/top boost/5E6a.  :blob8:
