Title: Hybrid Submini/Octal 2 Channel 5 watt SE
Post by: Kaptinkangaru on September 16, 2026, 09:52:54 pm
Sharing my latest design- the Sidewinder. the preamp has two independent foot-switchable channels, a rhythm channel that's full and round but has plenty of top end chime, and a lead channel that's tight and hairy. Output section is a 6V6GT. Hammond 1760C OT with rotary impedance selector. 12 volts in to a Royer inverter provides B+ of ~270V, 6.3V to heaters from a buck converter. Packed into a Hammond 7x5x3 enclosure.

I've searched high and low for shielding and mounting options for submini octals, haven't found anything that fits my bill. Previous amp designs were either lower gain, or had the tubes down further into the chassis and didnt suffer from noise. I was picking up some nasty interference from my wifi router, some grounded copper tape was the best I could come up with, and it works.

Idle hands and all.....I don't know how to sit still.
