Fender Blues JR. Point to Point Kit??
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I got a friend asking me if there is a kit available to convert
a PCB board Blues Jr. to point to point. I pointed him to Hoffman for parts but he is apparently to busy to build
his own board and acquire parts so I'm putting out the question "Does anybody know of such a kit is available"?? I did some goggle searches but didn't turn up anything. Plate

I don't think anyone makes a "Kit", But there are schematics available online, try www.blueguitar.org. I don't think these amps are 100% tube, I may be wrong, but I think that the fat boost and verb are both solid state driven-

 Hey Thanks

I went to the site and found the schematic file but when I
click on it I get a blank page every time. It just won't open for me. But that is something to think about, if you convert it to point to point you would need extra tubes to drive the reverb and extra gain stage (fat boost). Thanks, Plate

Maybe a bf Deluxe with a "Dumble-ized" preamp boost might suit him? Weber sells chassis kit for these and the preamp mods are available at www.schematicheaven.com. I'm sure you could also piont him toward the ax84 project, that would be a tweed-type preamp with el84 output. Dave Allen sells an AWESOME single-ended type kit called a "class-act" these are a plexi preamp on a champ output circut with beefed-up transformers so you can use any type of output tube with 6l6 or EL34 pinout. www.allenamps.com I Own one of these and they are an easy build with all parts, easy to follow instructions, and tech support within reason. HIGHLY RECCOMMENDED!

Platefire, I built a Pro Jr. last year that came out pretty nice.I used the original cab and power transformer, a small turret board that I layed out,a hammond output transformer,a hammond steel chassis, jensen speaker, and a faceplate that I made.It all looks original but is based on a combination of a 18 watt Marshall and a Fender design. They're very easy to build and you can keep the original trannys if you do'nt mind a solid state rectifier.I can post pictures if I knew how to get them posted here or you can relay me your email and I can show you the pictures, schematic, and layout if you like.

 Hello 66barry

To my understanding you can't post a picture directly to
this site??!! I think you have to have your photos posted on
your own site and just post the link. I use Yahoo photos which
gives you like 25MB free.

On your Pro jr. Project I would like to see your photos. If you
click on my forum name on these post it will take you to my
bio that has my e-mail address. I'm not really building this amp
myself but my friend Danny who is a great guitar player
and also is electronic technician professionally and is quite capable of building these amps his self but he will only do projects that are short and quick and not to involved. So he's
looking for a pre-fab kit with all the parts that he can slap it
together and have point to point Blues Jr. As far a building his
own turret board, naw he would never do that. I've tried to get him interested in amp building but he just won't go for it.
So I've tried to find a kit for what he wants but I don't think
such a thing exist.

How do you like the sound of your Pro-Jr. conversion????
I love working on amps and expermenting but my time is pretty
limited but I do manage to turn out a project every now and then. These guys on this site are great and have tons of tube
amp knowledge at our disposal for us to tap into. Plate

Hey Platefire, sorry for the delayed response.I only look into the forum every couple of weeks or so mainly to see what everyones building and to check out any new ideas.Seems like everyone here offers sound advice.I'm an old retired tech and have been noodleing with amps and effects since the 60's..Rebuiding a Pro Jr. should be no sweat for your friend and would be a great first project that would probably propel his interest in amp building and it can easily be done point to point with terminal strips.I know you can easily help him through the build! Like I said mine is based on a combination of a Marshall 18watt and a Fender and it's sounds pretty sweet and can crank a 1/2 stack with the external speaker jack if he wants to impress his friends. With the exisisting cab and transformers he could probably build it for well under fifty bucks.A headphone jack can even be added too.I really do'nt use mine very often though as I've got about 40 or so amps,I either built or bought, at the moment.I'll shoot some pictures of the amp and schematic and layout for you tomorrow and feel free to share them with anyone interested.

 Hello 66barry
Well you got a way big head start on years of experiance
and amps too. I've only started foolen with amps in 2000
with hardly any electronics knowledge and only have 10 amps
at this point. You must have a lot of storage space to keep 40!! Danny's take on tube amps is he fools with electrical Hospital maint. everyday and he would rather pay somebody else to do his tube amp chores unless it's quick and simple. He has certainly been a lifesaver for me on some of my projects where I got stuck and he bailed me out!!! Har! Sounds like your Pro Jr. is punching out some pretty cool sounds! Looking forward to seeing the pics. Plate

 Plate,
Most of those type amps have way more fabrication involved.

This is not something that casual amps tweakers should mess with.

You have pc mounted tube sockets with ribbon cables, solid state reverb, odd sized stamped tin cheezy chassis, etc.

I have messed with them before but I would never have a kit for them.

You need to have mucho fabrication skills to be able to do anything with them and that is usually custom one-off type work.

 Hello Doug

Yeah, I wouldn't even attempt it myself. What little I've fooled
with PCB boards wasn't fun and ribbon cables are very delicate. I'm really out of the loop on these modern PCB board
tube amps. I was just checking for a friend but now it's pretty
evident such a thing is almost impossible without selling you
a whole new amp/chassis. Long as point to point tube amp
parts are available, I'll build my own. Thanks, Plate

I'm a little late with this but maybe it'll help.
Dave Allen used to sell a chassis kit, basically a tweed Deluxe reverb, if memory serves me. It fits in and uses the Blues Jr cabinet, speaker, and reverb tank. I don't see it on his site anymore but if you contact him, he might still have something.

Good luck,
Dave

My freind Danny has just had his new blues Jr a little over a week now. He changed the preamp tubes out to Mullard
12ay7's and seems to be pretty happy with it as is for the
time being. He's got plenty of fine amps but wanted a smaller
quiter amp for playing in church but says it's still a little loud.
Sounds like I need to let him try out my Champ!!! Plate

Hey Platefire sorry again for the delay in sending the pictures of my build but I just sent them. Here's another link from Tom Steward for converting a Fender Pro Jr to turret board. It's a very easy build. When the link comes up click on the Fender/Marshall Pro Jr Farshall 18 watt. www.firebottle.com/ampage/homebrew.cgi?cat=ga&page=81

      Re: Pro Jr Hello 66barry

Now thats a real circuit!!!! Looks good, lot better than those
ribbon cables. 18 watts is a good power level to get that cranked sound without blowing the walls out. I wasn't
able to see your pictures yet because I at home instead
of work. So I want be able to see them until Monday when
I get back to work. My home e-mail is ttocsbob@hotmail.com
if you want to send them to that address. I viewed the
amp at the firebottle site. Looks like a big improvement to
me, especially if you ever need to work on it. No problem!

I'm kinda pumped up right now. Had a practice session with
the group I play with tonight and I used a different amp tonight, My 1961 Gibson GA-40. For some reason I havn't used this amp much sence I rebuilt it. It sounded absolutly lovely, creamy, buttery tone. No tween Fender has anything
on this buddy. I will be using the amp a lot more now!!! Ye! Haw!! Plate
