Title: Free Software To Convert PDF To Image Format Documents
Post by: Justa on January 02, 2009, 08:55:51 am
I thought others might have a need to convert pdf documents to image files such as jpg, tif, gif, etc. I convert pdf schematics to image files so can easily stretch schematics to fill a 8.5x14, crop hard to read portions and blow them up and do things such as change dark backgrounds to white for printing. I have found InfranView (free also) very useful to modify images doucuments but there are many programs of this type available.

PDF-XChange Viewer is the only program I have found that will export pdf documents as image files that is free without a trial period.  It is "Free for Private and Commercial use, provided not bundled with other software or for financial gain)". I have been using it for a few weeks and can find no evidence of malware.
Here is a link to PDF-XChange Viewer:

Thanks for the pointer; always good to have another tool, but ? ? ?

Adobe Acrobat Reader, last couple versions at least, have selection and copy to clipboard functionality. See snapshot below.

Once Copied, go into an image editor and Paste. Even Windows PAINT can be used, though almost everything else is better.

Adobe Acrobat Reader's Print function has "fit to page", and the printer I am sitting near has an 11"x17" paper-size option. (altho 11x17 can't possibly fit this inker, I have one at work which will eat 11x17.)

My adobe has a "save as" menu choice where I can save as many popular picture file formats.

Thanks PRR,
I never realized that Adobe Reader had the functionality to select a portion of a pdf and copy the selection to another program. I guess I have a mental block about pdf documents being locked.

LooseChange,
Which version of Adobe reader are you using? My Adobe Reader 9.0 (free) does not have a "save as" option to an image format. Am I missing it?

Thanks guys
