Title: Univox Custom ES335/ Dating?
Post by: plexi50 on January 17, 2009, 04:26:10 pm
I picked this up today for $150.00 in it's case from a friend that needed to pay a hefty traffic ticket. I couldnt resist.
Looks like new. No cracks / No rust or any scuffing. Do any of you know how to read the serial dating on the neck plate? I saw on Univox.org that this was the first ES335 made by Univox and that it was made before 1968.
I believe it has the original strings on it as well...

I had a Univox LP copy back in 1971. It was the "other" style headstock which was a close knock-off of the Gibson design.
I've seen older ones from the late 60's that had the rounded style similar to the ES335 that you have. So, I'd concur with the 1968 date that you found.
I just recently got a gold top Univox LP for dirt cheap off ebay. These were highly regarded copies back in the day...
