Title: speaker reccomendation?
Post by: jasperok on February 28, 2009, 05:46:45 pm
well folks - my 5e7 is nearing completion
i have a lovely cab ready for it but its a 2x10.
i am looking for a very crisp clean speaker - something that doesnt give or add any breakup/distortion to the sound, if i want that i'll get it from the amp or via pedals- just want a clear tight punchy speaker?
from your own experience or knowledge isthere anything you would reccomend for this purpose-
i have a multi tap mojotone transformer so shouldnt really be limitied by ohms - budget is medium - not low but i'd spring up to 250 for the two so i guess its not massive,
oh and i dont want to spend loads of $ just because its a genuine 30year old speaker-  i would prefer new ones.
thanks folks
liam

You may try a pair of Weber Ceramic California 10, either fitted with an aluminum dome (bright) or std. paper (warmer). Or a combination. They retail for around $90 ea.

The Weber California is a good choice. Is the cab closed back? Have you thought about a detuned cab ala London Power's Kevin O'Conner? I don't have one but I have heard them and they do sound good. I am definitely going to build one. Just as soon as I stop building amps!  ;D

Look at this one:

http://www.speakerhardware.com/deltalite_ii_2510-SPKNeoDeltalite2510.php
(hit the enlarge button for the T/S parameters)

This is one of the best all around drivers and this guy has some of the best prices and is a decent sort to do business with. And if you want something different, he's a full-fledged dealer- not a reseller... access to the whole Eminence line...

(And when you are ready to toss the Peavey's on sticks, he can set you up with all the goodies for a BFM horn loaded system Tell 'em Frankenspeakers sent youse)
