Speaking of my raspberries.
I just had  a good look at the 3 bushes I planted last year.
They have tons of little shoots coming up everywhere.

Some shoots are 24+ inches away from the main plant.
Gonna have a huge crop of fresh yummy rasberries this spring and again in the fall.

The electric fence has been completed around my bluberry and raspberry patch and I am about to turn on the juice and bait the wires with some peanut butter.

Be sure you use a lamp limiter the first time.

ummm... turn on the bait and juice the wires??? sounds complicted ;)

Gonna put the first wire about squirrel height?

Was told by the cable guy that the insulation in the cable lines tastes like peanut butter to the squirrels- which is why they tear them up so much- AHA! just run RG6 around the bottom of the perimeter! two fer the price of one! ;D

(Dish Network is so much nicer than cable: squirrels haven't found a way to chew up the comsats ...yet)

This is a deer height fence with 3 wires at 24", 36" and 48"
I don't care if the squirrels get into the squash, raspberries and blueberry area.
They don't really mess with any of those items.

The veggie garden will have a short 18" electric fence to keep out the rodents.
They don't eat anything, they just dig everywhere in the dirt and screw up the plants.

You've got me thinkin about an 'lectric fence too but not for rodents- damn neighbor cats think my freshly hoed soil is a litterbox.

Raspberrys fruit on last years growth, the new shoots will give you berrys next year.

These are Carolines.
They fruit on first year and last years canes.
And they also produce two crops a year.

You can mow them to the ground you want to and get new crop on all the new canes.

I had raspberries 4 months after planting mine last year.

on last years canes, the berries fruit lower down the older cane.
on new years growth, the berries fruit at the end of the new canes.

Many people are converting to Carolines because of their super sweet and good tasting fruit, and the growing habits.
