Title: 5e3 + Tube Screamer = happy happy
Post by: Dynaflow on April 01, 2009, 02:22:31 pm
I'm not much of a pedal person, I've had a TS9 tube screamer for a few years (off the shelf, hey Bonnamassa uses em, good enuff for this hack) and it never really worked well with the 18 watter, it would increase gain but just never did it for me. I built the sand rectified 5e3 with 6l6's a while back and I've been enjoying it, running it with 2x12's its actually got a bit of head room. Well I pulled out the TS9 'cause I was kinda jonesin for some feedback at a lower volume and wham, it done the job. Sounds really good, adjust the tone and outside of more gain I can get it pretty much transparent tone wise. Think I may just use this dude outside this weekend at a gig we have. No big story for many, but its the first time I even tried the TS with a 5e3 and the results were better than I could have hoped for.

Regards,

Dyna

I haven't got my own 5E3 but do have a coverted R to R Revere "5DC3" that I been jamming on a lot  and from playing on the 5E3 I built for somebody else recently, I realized my "5DC3" sounds a lot like the 5E3. I don't have a tube screamer but do have a "Route 66" that is suppose to be a reproduction of the tube sreamer circuit---i'll have to marry them up and see what happens! Plate  :D
