Title: Sheet metal shears
Post by: Tiny_Daddy on May 16, 2009, 01:19:10 pm
I am looking for a good shear or set of shears for cutting chassis material. Has anyone tried this?

Although they may be good snips, hard to tell because they do not publish what gauge metal they can cut.

I use a bench shear and panel punches.  I also stay away from IEC connectors.

Thanks, I am asking because someone wants the end cut off of some converted Hammond chassis because they are way long. So it's either a band saw or tin snips.

These are new to me, but they look like a very handy tool to have.  I'd be interested to hear what you think about them, TD, if you ultimately get them.

They look a lot like niblers to me. They claim (see bullets down the page) Cuts aluminum, brass and copper sheet up to 15 gauge, and mild steel up to 18 gauge. Cuts other materials as well (see Selection Guide). Probably work, depends on how big a hole you are dealing with. Dremel with cutoff wheels, jigsaw would be less work on steel. If its aluminum I'm sure they'd do fine, much better than aviation tin snips IMHO from the looks of them anyway.

Dyna

These seem to be what I am looking for:

Lots of 20% action there!

Sloppy coding. Works the same without the excess spaces (you need the one in "Compound%20Action").
